Claiming in her pitch book (catalogue#2356) to have been born of an English father who was a soldier stationed in Sierre Leon, Madame Howard was first advertised in the United States as "Leonine, A Living Woman With A Lion's Face" at Huber's 14th Street Museum. Madam Howard evidently did not require any further human name.
