Trade Publications
The outdoor show business, as well as novelty and variety entertainment, supported four great trade publications over its 150 year history. All of them are gone now.
The New York Clipper was the first such publication, and still considered by many as the most important. The last one Amusement Business ceased publication in 2006. Billboard continues on as a music-only publication, ceasing to cover the outdoor show world in 1960.
The New York Clipper (The Clipper) 1853-1924
Billboard 1894-Present (ceased reporting on outdoor entertainment in 1960)
The Greater Show World 1925-1950(?)
