Glass Eaters
Glass eating was a remarkably popular act in dime museums from the 1870s up until about 1905. After that the demand was eclipsed by the supply, and the art of ingesting bottles, beakers, goblets and carafes was nothing more than a broken promise. (Photo above is of contemporary-- and legendary-- performer Todd Robbins who has been eating lightbulbs in his act for many years.)
