Captain Costentenus
Classic view of this most famous and earliest of tattooed performers. "CAPTAIN COSTENTENUS, THE GREEK ALBANIAN, TATTOOED FROM HEAD TO FOOT, IN CHINESE TARTARY AS PUNISHMENT FOR ENGING IN REBELLION AGAINST THE KING." Here we present two copies of the same image, neither of which are in optimal condition. Costentenus first appeared with Barnum in 1876, and this card appears to be the first image which he sold of himself.
