The history and bio of Josephine Waas, better known as Josephine-Joseph is confusing at best. Some claim she was born in Romania, and her real name was Betty, and that she immigrated to the US in 1915. That she is best known for her role in Tod Browning's "Freaks" is clear.
Unusual in the world of Half-and-Halfs, she may have been born biologically as a woman. Her body was presented in the classic split-down-the-middle mode, one side female and the other male.
