Clark R. Queer
Clark R. Queer (1919-1979) was the showman's real name. The last name is rare today, but originated as a shortened and Americanized form of the German name Quirin. Queer was the publisher of "The Mount Pleasant Journal," the newspaper for Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, a community 45 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Queer was also a job printer, and the Postmaster for Mount Pleasant. As a showman, he started in the 1930s, owned rides, many funhouses, and several sideshows, including the main 10-in-1 with Johnny J. Jones for the 1941 season.
