Jonathan Bass
From Elizabeth Anderson
Jonathan Richardson Bass, the most famous "ossified man" of the 19th century, was born in Cambria, New York, on November 25, 1830 and grew up on a farm near Lockport. He first began experiencing joint problems at the age of 7, and by 17 was unable to walk without crutches. However, he managed to overcome his handicap, at least for a while, and worked on the family farm.
