Tom Thumb Token, 1846 Victoria Regina (Version 1)
Brass, 22mm token dated 1846 features Tom Thumb standing beside two books, which are half his height. This earliest of the 4 versions of the coin does not include his weight. On the obverse is Victoria Regina, then queen of England, as the coins were struck by P.T. Barnum to be sold as souvenirs of Thumb's shows in London. The second version made is also dated 1846 but lists Thumb's weight "15 lbs. WEIGHT" underneath his portrait. A third from the English tour is identical to the second version, though dated 1850.
