Three Tourists and a Ferris Wheel Tintype

Sixth-Plate Tintype. Though poorly produced, damaged, and slightly out of focus, this tintype is an excellent example of an inexpensive souvenir photo typically made at an amusement area, with a primitively rendered Ferris wheel painted on a canvas backdrop behind the sitters. This example came inside a damaged leather case which may or may not have been original to its day. Tintypes produced after about 1880 were placed in paper folders, replacing the more expensive cases that originated with the production and sale of Daguerreotypes and ambrotypes.
