Lia Graf Celluloid Pocket Mirror

Celluloid Pocket Mirror. Wide-eyed and cute Lia Graf wears flowers in her hair and holds a feather fan. Her name is printed in beautiful cursive font on the bottom right. Oddly ironic that Lia Graf should appear on such an ephemeral piece of advertising, as her life soon after was altered by the tragic history of the Nazis. In 1935 Graf ended her circus career in the USA and returned to her home country, Germany, where the National Socialists were then in power. Graf was arrested by the Gestapo in 1937 and taken to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp near Berlin.
