Gaddah, "The American Elephant Man" by Wendt
From the collection of Jeffery Kraus (www.antiquephotographics.com) comes this spectacular portrait by Frank Wendt of the performer known as Gaddah. Matching very closely descriptions in contemporary newspapers, he wears a fez, embroidered vest, and Arabic-styled matching velvet tunic and sarong. He sports medals, including a Masonic pin, though his rough-looking brogans are decidedly those of a working man. Evidence of his neurofibromatosis is very clearly displayed on the left side of his face.
