Dead Elephants Being Skinned
Horrible, yet blasé, view from a ditch of two workmen skinning deceased Asian elephants Josky and Trilby. The two elephants were killed in a massive flood that hit Peru Indiana in April 1913 where Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus had its headquarters. Several other of the elephants with this circus were saved, but these two were not so fortunate. Both were born in the wild and had performed at the Hagenbeck Animal Show at St. Louis Worlds Fair 1904 before traveling with the circus.
