Croak "Frog Boy"
Bearing a cruel sobriquet for such an earnest and handsome young man, this performer poses for what is an affecting and visually fascinating portrait. Crossing his withered legs, Croak balances on his hands above a wooden barrel behind the sideshow tent. He wears a muscle shirt, a rope belt, and perhaps a wedding ring, along with a self-satified half-smile showing confidence and aplomb. On verso: "Scenic Photo Publishing Co., Seattle, Wash." Scenic was a well-known publisher of Alaskan views in the early 1900's.
