Coney Island Twins: Billycan and Billycan

Humorous postcard featuring two photos of plaster figures sitting on ersatz toilets, i.e. Billikens, here styled "Billycan" and "Billycant." Postmarked July 19, 1909....The Billiken was a fad charm doll created by an American art teacher and illustrator, Florence Pretz who is said to have seen the mysterious figure in a dream. Various forms of the doll were sold in the early 1900s as good luck charms.
