Ada Briggs, Close-Up

CARTE D'VISITE. Beautifully posed with incredibly coifed hair, Ada interlaces her fingers and looks off to the left. BOGARDUS. On verso: signed in colored pencil "Adah Briggs/Weight 570 lbs." Backmark by BOGARDUS/872 Broadway/Cor. 18th Street........In his book Mitchell says that BOGARDUS photographed Ada first, "a year of two before Eisemann" photographed her in 1885 when she was 17 and weighed 570 lbs. She played Drew's Dime Museum in 1884.
