Starting as a pigeon trainer in dime museums, and ending his career in show-business as a Punch and Judy man, Joseph Milana, left a small but indelible mark on landscape of late 19th and early 20th Century sideshow, primarily as one of its most visible Sword Swallowers.

Famous for his long run season after season at Coney Island's Dreamland Circus Sideshow, Ajax was friend to nearly every performer who made Coney Island a stop-over through the years. He also appeared in in vaudeville and Broadway plays whenever they needed a sword swallower or fire-eater.
