Docen’s Freak Animal Show

The photo below is Docen’s huge show set-up at Coney Island. Charles Docen had the Freak Animal Show on World of Mirth in the late-1930s. Docen owned and operated Freak Animal shows starting in 1920, and had a show with his wife in Coney Island in the 30s, and also had a show at The Century of Progress in Chicago in 1933. He also owned the famed “Bull With Human Skin,” named Adonis. In July 1938 the 53 year old Docen was killed when he and his assistant were involved in a fatal accident driving a truck between spots. “Billboard” reported that memorial services were held in the tent of the freak animal show, and that “Out of respect to memory of both men, freak animal show was not opened until Friday night.”
