The early history of cinema can be located equally inside the sideshow ten and the dime museum, as it can be found inside the confines of the traditional theatre. Before theaters were adapted to the new art form, itinerant projectionists travelled the carnival and fair circuit showing films inside tents whose canvas had been painted black to keep out the light of day.
