From Plover, Wisconsin, Midget performer Frank Barnsdale was known as Admiral Thumb.

Frank dressed in a Revolutionary War uniform, and was from a showbiz family. His brother was an acrobat who performed on the high-wire, did trapeze, and a knife-throwing act. Frank's father Walter travelled around showing early films with his company Barnsdale's Moving Pictures Co. beginning in the early 1900's.

Admiral Thumb played with Ringling Brothers Barnum Bailey Circus in the teens, but after a while Frank began to grow, and got tired of show business.
