Austin & Stone's Museum
Austin and Stone’s Dime Museum (1885-1905) in Boston Massachusetts, was established by William Austin and Frank Stone, and was the premier venue in that city for 20 years.
Comedian Fred Allen wrote about the Museum in his memoir, "Much Ado About Me." By 1905 the dime museum business was winding down, not just for Austin and Stone’s, but for the whole genre of entertainment. In the coming age of free city, municipal and private museums, the 100-year-old idea of the dime museum was antiquated and neglected.
