Rube Merrifield here is posed outside his studio in Coney Island in about 1900. Merrifield was an early sideshow banner painter who was also a mentor to Snap Wyatt and many others. He had his own studio as seen here but also worked at premier Coney Island banner company Millard & Bulsterbaum.
