Image Details
Acrobat, showman, inventor-- The Great Farini, was deservedly called the "Canadian Barnum." Perhaps his most fascinating "invention" was his adopted ten year old son-- "El Niño Farini," who began performing together with Farini on tightrope and trapeze in 1865. In 1870 El Niño disappeared, replaced suddenly by Farini's latest discovery--"The Beautiful Lulu-- the Girl Aerialist and Circassian Catapultist." Fame, fortune and male admirers stacked up alongside piles of gold coins, until 1878, when with much embarrassment, it was revealed that Lulu was in fact a man.
