Billed as "The Elephant Man," little is known about Baricassen, other than a spectacular ca. 1920 French printed photo postcard of him on all fours in the guise of a "bear man," i.e. with foreshortened arms and legs, similar to the well-known American performers Johanna and Ursa. The postcard claims he is "The greatest curiosity of the 20th Century, and that he was born in Constantine in Algeria, and was 75 centimeters tall.
