Snapshot

Snapshots are almost always of a smaller paper format-- typically 3"x4" in earlier incarnations-- and represent a non-commercial, amateur consumer method of capturing a moment in time.

Eastman-Kodak released its famed "Brownie" camera in 1900, and until it was eclipsed by the digital camera over 100 years later, the traditional snapshot spontaneously captured the amateur photographer's "everyman" view of the show world in both posed and candid views.

In addition to the mainly amateur views in this format, the smaller snapshot size was also employed by some professional photographers looking to sell reprints to the public at a very low cost.
